First, I was sorry to miss last night's TARS meeting. As many of you know, I
am a member of three clubs, all of which meet on the second Thursday of the
month. This month TDXS moved our meeting venue to a restaurant and to
Wednesday, Nov 12. That left Thursday night to either TARS or BVARC. BVARC
was having an election which is sometimes contested and I thought it important
to attend BVARC to prevent a party who I consider out to do harm to BVARC from
being elected to the BVARC board. TARS, while having some membership
difficulties has no one I know of that is out to do the club intentional harm.
At the TDXS meeting I agreed to continue as DX Chairman and since our Contest
Chairman did not see fit to continue into 2015 I volunteered to wear that hat
again if we do not find another volunteer. Since TDXS is a specialty Contest
and DX club, we need active support and newsletter articles to cover both
areas. TARS and BVARC have no such officers as
far as I know and it is very little more work for me to send announcements of
contest and DXpeditions active as well as choice DX stations to all three clubs
as I have done in the past. My contribution to the TDXS Bullsheet focuses on
helping the less experienced learn Contesting and DXing. Many TDXS members are
older and very experienced in their own right and will help any who ask.
Several members are on the Honor Roll and several have Honor Roll #1 and are
knowledgable and experienced in their own right so I have little to teach them.
So my aim is to help any licensed ham to join us in Contesting and DXing and
those of you who wish to join TDXS, we will welcome you. If you would like to
know more about TDXS or to read the Bullsheet, please go to our web site, The
Texas DX Society and check us out. You do not need to join us or be accepted
to read about us and our activity on the web site. While you are on the site,
you can find the opportunity
to join the TDXS reflector and to see our communication and activity. The
Bullsheet is published by the reflector, so you can download each issue as it
is published or see our archives as far back as the inception in 1970 and
download as you wish on our web site.
I would like to make a pitch for your membership. First, do not be intimidated
by our lengthy application and need to be accepted into the group. We feel we
are a Fraternity instead of just another Amateur Radio Club. We view the
application and acceptance as a sort of Fraternity rush rather than just
joining another club. When we accept you into our fraternity, we accept you
for life, even if you move away and cannot actively participate either for a
while or for the long term. We want you to have adequate time and resources to
decide if you want to be a part of TDXS and we want you to fit with our
program. Do not be inhibited by our ages and experience. We Want the younger
amateurs to join and participate. Actually, any amateurs, new to experienced,
young to old. Anyone that would enjoy a ham fraternity that mainly promotes
DXing and/or Contesting. Some of our members aren't even avid DXers or
Contesters anymore but enjoy being around those
that are. We realize that the current membership does not have a lot of time
to enjoy ham radio and want the fraternity to outlive us. Please join us if
you see a fit. If you need to delay a while, then keep us in mind and use us
as a resource as you get to be seasoned contesters and DXers.
I hope to attend the Tars Christmas Party and pay dues to all three clubs for
2015. Please give me any ideas about how I can help you with Contesting and
DXing as well as coordinating the three clubs for the betterment of Metroplex
ham radio. Please look at our web site, reflector and the Bullsheet as you can.
