Jimmy Hoffa, ‘Freddy’ Dimitri Ivanov and Igor Maloskovich…all missing and
possibly thrown into a building foundation for safe keeping….. Who’s buried
in Grant’s Tomb?

In construction lots of traditions or superstitions exist. Mrs Linbeck thw
wife of Leo Linbeck used to throw Catholic medallions into the first concrete
placed on projects and pray that no one would be injured.

Others would throw coins in the concrete like into a fountain or well.

Hello,

Years ago when Bob Evans K5WA built his contest station here, we did one
better and added a " not-ready-for-prime-time " E.F. Johnson Valiant to the
bottom of the hole. The DX rolled in every day!

Anyone who wants it can have it if you don't mind chipping about 3 yards of
concrete away.

Subject: [BVARC] Question about an old tradition

I have a question about an old and sacred tradition. The tradition is that
of putting certain QSL cards in the concrete base of a new tower to make the
antenna play better. I did just that on my last tower and the buried QSL
cards have served their purpose quite nicely, I might add! The SteppIR plays
like a hose!

If I remember correctly, I started with the obligatory JT QSL, and in
addition, I added some others from each continent, a pile of JAs and DLs,
and some from big time DXpeditioners (OH2BH, for example) for more of that
DX and contest Mojo. I don't remember the exact mix, but you get the idea.

I am hoping to get my hole dug this weekend (weather permitting) to put up
my new 18HT vertical. I have made arrangements with "The Dirt Whisperer" to
do the job on either Saturday or Sunday. Who, you might ask is "The Hole
Whisperer"? He is a friend of a friend who has an affinity and a special
talent for moving dirt faster than anyone we know. He can dig a hole and/or
a trench practically in the blink of an eye! While I have not actually seen
this with my own eyes, I am told it is the absolutely truth. A few
greenbacks and a Swinging Door BBQ lunch is all I need to part with and my
whole hole problem is solved!

Now back to my question that is haunting me: Is there a requirement that all
the QSL cards that goes in my new tower base need be for contacts with my
call or can they be from another call? I have a lot of cards for KL5DX piled
up here, and I don't really need them. Will they work just as good as cards
made out to N5XZ?

A little sage from the old timers and "Old Codgers" who perhaps know and
understand this time tested and honored tradition better than I, please.

Awaiting wisdom,
