Fom: WILLIS COOKE <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, May 21, 2015 11:17 PM Subject: BVARC Participation in Museum Ship Weekend While it is true that the Cavalla Board of Directors has decided not to support the BVARC operation from the Cavalla and Stewart Radio rooms again this year, we are still interested in supporting the ships and will operate again this year from Ft. Travis Park on Bolivar Peninsula which will afford us a view of the ships. I have informed the group at the Battleship New Jersey that we will operate again this year. I have asked the Galveston County Park Board and the Galveston County Commissioner's Court for permission to use their facility again this year and they have agreed to this plan. We plan to occupy two of the three available Cabana's and Erect antennas similar to last year. I have purchased three sets of mosquito netting for our use and plan to be better equipped with area sprays this year so hopefully we will not have the evening participation from the local insects. Last year it was fine except for the evenings when the mosquitoes blew in with the sea breeze. Mike Hardwick, BVARC Vice President and acting President has arranged for us to meet May 26, 2015, 7:00 PM at Bayland Park 6400 Bissonnet Street Houston, Texas 77074. We need to discuss who will be present at the park for Friday Afternoon to set-up, Friday night to operate and eat, Saturday Morning, Afternoon, and Evening to operate and eat and Sunday morning to eat, operate and take down. We plan to have Mike's trailer and tower with the BVARC Tribander and Triplexers. We also will have a six meter antenna or two and some dipoles. We need to discuss the need for WARC antennas as well as 40 and 80 antennas and what equipment that will be furnished. We have permission to remain throughout the period including camping in the area. The Galveston County Commissioners have agreed to waive the usual camping fees for our group. Mike has estimated that about 15 people will participate and I am hoping for at least 20. You do not have to stay the whole time but the larger the group the better. We do hope to get a good feel for the number of people that will be present at the different times so that we can furnish adequate food and drink for the groups. I find the ferry ride to be quite pleasant and hope that you will too. Ft. Travis is a very interesting area and was used as an artillery installation in all wars from the Texas War for Independance through World War II. Many relics from the past are still evident and the Houston/Galveston Channel Traffic can be enjoyed. The lighthouse is nearby and can be observed. A restroom is nearby and male and female showers are available. I plan to publish an article outlining our plans in the BVARC June edition of the newsletter.
