Hello all, Wanted to thank everyone in the club who's taken the time to help me improve my meager operating skills.
All the suggestions came in handy this past weekend as I tried to participate in the 13 Colonies Special Event. I got the impression that SOME hams out there were treating this like a contest: lots of folks tuning up on frequency and some even stepping on exchanges between hams and the event sites. For those of you who might not have known about the event, I got it from Terry Myers in NARS. Here's a link to the site: http://www.13colonies.info/ Anyway, I used all the suggestions I've learned over the past few months (tuning up or down off the frequency to sound different, or using split, etc.) and got 9 of the stations. I would have gotten more if I hadn't been interrupted by phone calls Friday and Saturday. I think I could have gotten all 13 stations plus the stateside bonus station, but never heard the British station. But I had to leave the ham QTH in Woodville Sunday morning to visit a sick friend. Got some of the stations on the OCF, and a couple each on my ground mounted vertical and my 20m omni loop from PAR Electronics. All on 100w. I now have a much better radio, I've improved my antenna farm a bit. I have an amp I can use, once I learn how to use it. I just hope my operating skills are catching up. Again, thanks for all the help and advice. 73, Rob, KC5RET ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This email message is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information of Cameron and its Operating Divisions.
