BVARC friends,
I want to thank my friends from for the support you gave at the Camp Hope Annual BBQ cookoff. We had a wonderful time fellowshipping together with the visitors and on the radio. While I have not yet compiled the log, I think we had about 60 contacts total across 20 and 40 meters. The dual QSO idea with the Lexington, W5LEX worked out very well and turned our event into a multi-site event. Two stations working together in a net-control scenario is consistent with our tradition of being a "radio-relay league" The folks at W5LEX had a great time as well. One Facebook contact from W5LWEX reported that they could almost smell the BBQ across the air. There are many people to thank. I want to specifically thank Ron Litt, Nathan Vessey and Steve Friedman and Mike Hardwick. These hams played vital roles in making this work. Jim Mehrmann, the director of outreach for Camp Hope has expressed gratitude for our efforts. He has started studying for his technician license and is expected to take the tech test in the next 60 days. Where do we go from here. Our next step is to schedule a tech license prep class and ve session. Once we have a few licensed operators, we will initiate a vhf/uhf station at Camp Hope and start an echolink net for veterans. It appears that the American Legion is already doing several vet nets. We will turn to them for their assistance as we move forward. As we move forward, please consider helping us support our vets at Camp Hope. They need friends. As these new technicians come on .94, please welcome them. Get to know them, find out if you can help them with job referrals. Help them integrate with us in the hobby. Saturday was an outstanding experience. I am asking the club to do anything, but I am asking each of us as individuals to do what we can. This is a promo video about Camp Hope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5td0WR5Iww Let's use our hobby to transform lives and have fun. As in the many events in which our club participates, that is "how we roll" Thanks, Bob Hawkins
