FT-857 somewhat sensitive to heat; the display.

The big difference between the TS-480SAT and the Yaesu FT857D, is the Yaesu has VHF/UHF, the Kenwood does not, for a few $$ more, the Kenwood TS-480HF cranks out 200 watts, but requires 41 amp power supply (Per Kenwood web page..), both radios have detachable control heads, from personal experience, the FT-857D display can be hard to read & the Menu's with 3 functions per button, have a learning curve I couldn't comprehend...

Jerry I would love to help with an on air experience, but I am to far away. And have not put any antenna yet. I am sure someone there will have what you need.

It looks like most people prefer to have a unit that has a
feel to it and not be distracted by a touch screen. With that in
mind I am leaning toward a FT-857d or a T-480. Need so on air
experience / comments on these units. Neither has a built in tuner
so would need to get a screw driver ant. Want the best so I do not
have to replace it if I change out the radio. Any suggestions?
