As some of you may have seen earlier, this weekend is the annual Museum
Ships Weekend (MSWE). From June 3rd to the 5th, the historic ships at
Seawolf Park on Pelican Island in Galveston will come to life as part of an
annual worldwide event commemorating their service. This year, BVARC will be
hosting MSWE on the radio room of the destroyer escort, the USS Stewart.
BVARC members as well as visiting amateur radio operators will be operating
from the Stewart and communicating with the nearly one hundred other
historic vessels in the United States and around the world. Due to the
unique situation of Seawolf Park having the USS Cavalla at the same
location, any contact will provide an extra claimed ship QSO contact. During
MSWE, the public may come and visit the operators during the weekend
observing the contacts being made.

The schedule for the weekend will begin on early Saturday morning and end
Sunday afternoon. Two operating positions are planned with SSB and CW modes
available. PSK may be also be used during the weekend if enough operators
are available. The schedule break down is:

Set-up 7am to 9 am
Saturday (Set-up may take longer but hopefully a station will
be operating by 9 am)

Operating time 9 am to
Saturday

                                                3 pm
Sunday

Tear down 3 pm to 5 pm Sunday

Operators volunteering for the overnight shift will be able to sleep in the
Stewart's officer berthing area (there will be a couple of Boy Scout) troops
spending the night as well but they will be in the enlisted bunk area of the
ship).

The talk-in frequency will be 146.940, minus offset, 167.9 tone. To sign-up
for a shift(s), bring equipment, volunteer for set-up or tear down or just
obtain more information contact me, Mark Janzer, K5MGJ at k5...@yahoo.com .

The Brazos Valley Amateur Radio Club is grateful for the enthusiastic
support of the Cavalla Historical Foundation and the Galveston Park Board of
Trustees for their permission to be aboard the vessels and the use of the
park facilities. We look forward to continued future activity and expansion
of BVARC's involvement of MSWE. This involvement allows us, in our own way,
to honor those who served their country at sea and to support Galveston
Parks.
