Houston, TX, August 1, 2016 - The Texas DX Society announced today that it is launching a major effort to attract new members; especially new hams who are interested in working DX and participating in contests. TDXS members recently approved significant changes to its club constitution to eliminate any restrictive barriers to membership. According to Club president Bob Hardie, W5UQ, "TDXS has a wealth of experience we can share with the ham radio community at large. We want to encourage new hams to discover the tools and techniques that are a part of the greatest hobby in the world." "Many of our members, are multiple DX Century Club (DXCC) award holders and almost 50 are on the DXCC Honor Roll", said Allen Brier, N5XZ, and TDXS Communication Chairman. "Their experience is a valuable resource of communications skill, said Brier further. . Most TDXS members are avid contesters. "Participating in contests is one of the fastest ways to work new countries and earn the coveted DXCC award. It is also one of the best ways to improve operating skills, according to Contest Chairman, Glenn Anderson, WB5TUF. "The pace and competition of a contest is one of the best ways to prepare for a real emergency", Anderson stated. Even if you have little contest experience, we are interested in forming contest teams with new hams and experienced members. It's the best way to learn how it is done.
