Rice University had a major power outage last Friday that exceeded our UPS power supply, and something bad happened to our server that both calculates the Boyle Index, the forecasted AE, DST and KP and sends out alerts. After several attempts to restore the operating system, we finally gave up and are upgrading our operating system and server software. We had been using an older OS in the "if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it" mode. Well, it broke! Upgrading and resetting the server is taking some time but our IT folks are working as fast as we can. Meanwhile, be aware that there is a geomagnetic storm in progress, and if you live in northern tier of states, keep an eye out for auroras tonight. We hope to be up and fully running later today but a lot of scripts need to be rewritten. I apologize for the system being down. It is our first major down time since our system went live in 2003. We had offered the code to both NOAA and GSFC to put into their systems, but it had not yet been done.
