Hi to all. Let me address your issues with the .94 machine. First understand
the 146.940 frequency is a popular repeater frequency. Houston, Austin,
Lufkin & Beaumont all have .94 machines. The only thing that is different is
the PL. Many times when the band conditions are good, the receiver
(Repeater) has a hard time distinguishing between your mobile radio and a
mobile or base radio in Austin, or Lufkin, after all its receive antenna is
800 ft in the clouds. The only difference is the PL tone, but the receiver
is still overwhelmed by RF. This will de-sense the receiver. (Causing it to
lower its sensitivity) to all signals, When you can hear Austin, you know
the band is open. Also when the band is open, your mobile is receiving
several signals, this also de-sense your radio. This problem is more
apparent during the fall when cold fronts pass or come close as propagation
becomes better. I am going to make a trip to the repeater site in the next
week or so for a fall checkup. But to help overcome the problems, several
suggestions, first up your transmit power. Your signal will be stronger into
the repeater than the one in Austin. Second enable PL (tone sql ) on your
radio. The repeater transmits a PL tone. This will keep Austin from coming
in and you radio will only receive Houston. Thanks all.

Subject: [BVARC] Repeater issues or just me?

Good morning Bvarc! Just curious if anyone else is having a hard time with
reception from the 146.94 repeater... Seems like it has been really weak
lately and I'm trying to figure out if it is my mobile setup or the repeater
itself. This morning on the way to work Austin was coming in stronger than
the 94 machine even down in the Westchase area. I've done some
troubleshooting on my setup and can't find anything amiss; just wondering if
anyone else is experiencing the same...

73,
Josh
