Roy, Travis, et al

 

If you know the story behind the leg lamp below and the man who wrote The 
Christmas Story; Jean Shepherd, K2ORS (SK), ex-W9QWN.  Excelsior was one of his 
favorite expressions and often used in commentary about some ridiculous true 
life event, as in “Excelsior, you fathead!” 

 

I discovered Shep in high school when I was studying late at night.  Shep was 
on WOR-Radio in NYC every night from 8 PM – Midnight.  He never had a script 
and never a guest.  But he could make you laugh  He would talk about news, 
geography, his time as a kid growing up and his Army time in WWII; and yes, 
plenty of ham radio stories.  Here are a couple
