(My apologies to the CW experts since you probably don’t need to read
this.)
I have attached THE ART AND SKILL OF RADIO-TELEGRAPHY by N0HFF (SK) as
a pdf file. It is a must read for people who want to learn CW or think
that they cannot learn CW.
I could have, would have, halved my time learning CW if I had read
this book before starting. I have had to unlearn the way I was taught
CW the hard way. Learning to decode every letter into dit and dah at 5
wpm was not only the wrong way, it was probably the most miserable way
to learn. No wonder I avoided CW operation for 30 years.
Learning to HEAR the sound of letters and numbers sent by CW at 20
wpm, bypasses the wrong way it was taught. Learning CW by first
listening to good CW is critical to learning the proper sounds of
letters and words. There are several apps, such as CWtext, Learning
CW, and Morse words, which make it easy to learn. This book provides a
really good set of rules on how to learn the code efficiently and
enjoying it.
If I can start learning CW again at 70 years of age, you can too. It
is a lot of fun when you bypass the miserable dit and dah stage, and
start recognizing the sounds of letters and words.
