Then, I guess I should ask if there is anyone that would loan me an antenna analyzer then. Anyone have one to lend to this poor old "leaping gnome"?

You'd not need a radio to spit out RF. You'd also be able to see the range of SWR from 1:1 to say, 5:1 across the frequencies you'd intend to transmit on. It'd be much easier to trim the dipole as well, if needed.
