It took a bit of time but the ARRL rules to have finally caught up with
the AMSAT field day rules. I eliminated the multi contact on FM
satellites years ago as a way to encourage more groups to make their
only contact and for those operating satellites to move to the other
modes (SSB/CW/Digital). It was a fair thing to do in order to discourage
an alligator from being the only station that all the others could
possibly work.
That was the tongue in check of my post about a 500 watt 2m linear for
my HT. It can only operate on an FM bird and it would be a waste of
equipment for that one contact.
Now, you can continue to make contacts forever on an FM bird and work
dozens and dozens of other stations. In doing so, you will have wasted
your time but all the other stations will be helped by your contact as
it will most likely be their only contact.
If you are going to make a satellite contact, weather one or a dozen
contacts, please submit your groups score towards AMSAT field day. Rules

I am a bit quicker that ARRL in scoring and there is an earlier cutoff
date for submission than the ARRL. I do it so that the results get into
the very next issue of the AMSAT Journal.

One important thing to remember is that the ARRL Field Day rules have
changed in regards to these single-channel FM satellites. Stations
participating in ARRL Field Day are limited to one (1) QSO on any
“birds” that fall into the single channel FM classification. This
change is to allow more groups the opportunity to experience the
thrill of satellite communications. Once you have made one successful
FM Satellite QSO, PLEASE allow other Field Day groups the same
opportunity at bonus points that you had. Now that SO-50 is the one of
the few functioning FM satellite, usage will be exceptionally high.
