JP I also have an 857, if you are using the CAT to connect to a computer 
without a serial port, do note some serial to usb adapters will not work or 
will not work correctly with the cable. Make sure that is not the issue or the 
cat cable, I have one to try if needed. Robert KD5YVQ

JP, I did ship an 587 off to it's Maker in Cypress California.  I would be 
interested to know what you find localy. . I had used too long a screw in the 
Mobile bracket and broke a wire inside, It cost me $100 in freight round trip 
and i think $75 for the repair, Also just a little less tan 3 weeks.
