He was born on January 30th 1930 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Sherman and Emma Beers. In 1947, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Army for a period of three years where he earned the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). He was involuntarily extended for an additional year and sent to Korea in 1951 where he earned the Korean Service Medal. After separation from the US Army, David went on to learn the skills of a radio operator. He served in the Merchant Marines as a Radio Officer until his retirement. His career allowed him the opportunity to travel the world countless times. David was fond of fishing, camping, and science-fiction. He dearly loved his family and his friends in the radio club. He is survived by his two children, Joshua Beers and Chieri Beers, and his grandchildren Caila Beers, Aidan Sanders, Xavier Beers, Ashton Sanders, and Cole Beers. You will be dearly missed AF5T (Always Friendly Five Texas). May god bless you on your journey! Services will be at Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 30th 2017 at 10:30 am.
