I know others on this list will disagree with me (modern transceivers reduce power in the event of an impedance mismatch to protect finals, e.g.) - but why take the chance with a VERY expensive rig? Our Troop recently received a very generous donation of some ham radio equipment that includes an HF rig (Yaesu FTDX5000). One of our assistant scoutmasters bought an antenna (MFJ1622) and we hope to put it all together and get on the air this Sunday October 29th at 2pm. None of the licensed hams in our troop have ever used an HF rig. We will be reviewing our licensing books, reading some manuals, and then flipping the switch to see what happens.
