The list price for that radio is almost $4,000. What time and where is your
event?

Wow - FTDX-5000 - very generous indeed! Congrats!

But please, don't just flip the switch to see what happens. I know others on
this list will disagree with me (modern transceivers reduce power in the event
of an impedance mismatch to protect finals, e.g.) - but why take the chance
with a VERY expensive rig?

I'm not available this Sunday, but I'd be happy to help when I have time. Many
others on this list would be too, I'm sure.

Cherish the wonderful gift your troop has been given, take your collective
time, and learn how to operate it properly. The time investment will pay off
many times over.

Howdy BVARC members,

My name is Eric Lieb, I am an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 806 in Bellaire.

Our Troop recently received a very generous donation of some ham radio
equipment that includes an HF rig (Yaesu FTDX5000). One of our assistant
scoutmasters bought an antenna (MFJ1622) and we hope to put it all together and
get on the air this Sunday October 29th at 2pm. None of the licensed hams in
our troop have ever used an HF rig. We will be reviewing our licensing books,
reading some manuals, and then flipping the switch to see what happens.

If you would like to come help us figure things out please let me know. We
could really use some help from a few experienced hams on Sunday.

Feel free to forward this message to others that might want to help, and keep
an ear out for our new club call KG9BSA on Sunday.

Regards,

Eric Lieb (KF5GWY)
