If you've considered building something, like maybe a 40m CW QRP transceiver,
one of the more historic and precursors to the Elecraft line of radios - is the
Norcal 40A.
The QRP-Tech Yahoo group (Chuck Adams) and the re-invented (Nor)Cal QRP club
(Doug Hendricks) are instigating a revival of the radio for it's 25th
anniversary (2018).
They are providing the means of acquiring boards (at a very cheap price, 55
cents) and a slightly updated design (to meet FCC requirements), with Wayne
Burdick's blessing. The original design, and such, are per the links below.

I'm considering doing a build (with the 30m mod). I've ordered the minimum
board quantity (10), so a local participant is welcome to a board. There will
be guidance for the parts acquisition and if there is enough local interest, we
can host "build party(s)" for a portion, or all of the build - in installments.
Hopefully, I'll have boards available at the BVARC homebrewer meeting in
December.
You'd be responsible for using your own tools and the cost of parts ($60-$70,
also dependent on what's in your junk box). A build will take anywhere from
20-40 hours (not in one sitting...).The QRP-Tech Yahoo Group site has a bunch
of resources if you decide to make a go of it.
This will be a great introduction to how radios work, theory, practicality and
where the magic RF smoke is kept. I have a copy of "The Electronics of Radio"
that is used as a reference & college text - which builds a 40A as part of the
coursework. At the end, you'll have a piece of history, that you built, and
kinda understand.
The operating event associated with the build will span through 2018.
Let me know if you'd like to participate.
