Most of the operators are very patient with newbies. All you have to do is send QRS (slow down) and they will drop to 17 wpm or lower until you copy them.
The mission of the CWOPS people is to encourage the use of CW. So, they have developed advanced CW teaching methods that eliminate the dits and dahas to learning the sounds of a letter. Once you do that, you are already at about 17 wpm recognition if there is a long space between the letter sounds. The new method bypasses the Miserable Old Method of learning CW by dits and dahs. You jump directly into the fun part of CW learning. Phil, W2OBZ, and Dan, KS5V, can probably explain better their experiences with CWOPS CW classes.
