Not to invalidate your experience or anything, but I've never had an issue with people being unwilling to repeat their call.  On the other hand, since I'm usually hunting-and-pouncing rather than running-and-gunning, I've typically listened to them give their whole exchanges many times and I've got the log entry filled out except for the time of the contact before they finally hear me, and it's usually THEM requesting that I send my call again.

One of my pet peeves is guys who either never seem to say their call, just "qrz" or "qrz contest."  Another one is guys who vary what they do every time so I don't know when I should start transmitting.

Note to self:  Need to do more contesting in 2018.

Guys and Gals.
I tried. Had only one opening on friday night and the wife called during it so had to leave. When I came back it was dead and stayed that way for the rest of the contest.  I now understand the term sporadic contact. One second it would be there and the next gone. Since I have a hearing problem I would ask for a repeat and they were gone. Also I have a request. Please be patient with us newbees and talk slower when asked.  I had one guy that stated he did not have time to repeat. In that length of time he could have done so. His loss as I could not get his call. See you all next contest.  From the deaf and slow side.
