Heard a conversation between a K5 call in a new ham on the repeater this
morning. The K5 call sign evidently needs to go back to the books. He
stated it was necessary to keep a logbook operating HF; that is incorrect!!
He also stated that white noise, if not due to distance/signal strength
from the rptr, was caused by antenna tuning? What the hell? If I could have
gotten into the repeater I would have corrected him but the damn thing is
still an alligator where you can hear it more than midscale and not get
into it with 50 watts!! I wish trustee would fix the thing but I'm not
holding my breath. My Beaumont 146.94 repeater is about to return to the
air and it is well balanced thank you very much. If you can hear it, it can
hear you. But then all of my repeaters since 1977 have been that way...

I suppose he could have a vanity call but I would expect better knowledge
from a K5xxx callsign than that.

Off the soapbox now..
