Happy first of April aka April Fool’s Day.

The folks in the to: list have signed up for an Arduino Nano for the Arduino
101 club meeting topic on April 11. A few have their own Arduino so will not be
needing one from my stash.

Prior to the meeting, kindly visit https://www.arduino.cc
<https://www.arduino.cc/> and navigate to SOFTWARE, drop down to DOWNLOADS, and
find the Download the Arduino IDE which is currently ARDUINO 1.8.9.

STEP ONE

Windows users:

There are three download choices, all of which end up at the same level of the
IDE. Probably the easiest to use is the Windows ZIP file. Just select the link
and install the Arduino IDE. (Caution: make sure you have available disk space
and be prepared to wait for the download to finish.)

Mac OS X:

The IDE requires 10.8 (Mountain Lion or newer). If you have a Mac with an Intel
processor, you are probably ok. If your operating system is 10.7 or older,
either upgrade the OS, buy a new Mac, or use BootCamp and install Windows and
use the Windows version. Same caution as above on disk space.

Linux users:

Install the appropriate version, however I do not really recommend Linux for
the Arduino 101, because of difficulty installing the Chinese USB-Serial
driver, which is needed. Again, disk space!

STEP TWO

The Arduino Nanos I will be supplying use a Chinese USB-SERIAL chip (CH340G).
The manufacture’s official download site, unfortunalely is only available in
Chinese, but I have a solution. Use Google Translate!

Open https://translate.google.com <https://translate.google.com/> copy this
link http://www.wch.cn/download/CH341SER_EXE.html
<http://www.wch.cn/download/CH341SER_EXE.html> which you will then past into
Google Translate. A few seconds later you will have a page you can then you are
good to go.

Windows users:

Download the CH341SER.ZIP and install the driver which supports all Windows
versions from XP to 10.

Mac users:

Download CH341SER_MAC.ZIP, unzip and follow the on-screen prompts.

Linux users:

I could not figure out how to install the driver, but if you are a Linux guy,
maybe you can. The driver is built into most current distributions, but is not
installed by default.

I’ll be bringing all these files on USB stick just in case.

Don’t forget you laptop, charger and jpower cord, and the much needed mini-USB
data cable!

If you have requested a laptop to use during the session, not to worry. It will
be there for you.

If you are having download or installation problems, email me and we’ll work it
out.

See you on the 11th!
