I am a recent licensed HAM and BVARC member. I.e. NOOB.

This is my first email out to the group, requesting some guidance.

I want to talk with my family while riding around in the Houston area. My
children are very young, and too young to do the amateur radio license. So
I applied, paid the $80, and obtain the GMRS family license. I purchased 5
watt HT radios. But they only work about half a mile, radio to radio
simplex mode. Was thinking about a GMRS repeater as a solution. We live
in a deed restricted neighborhood, so antenna solution there is probabably
not the best solution. But I do own a commercial property in the galleria
area, that is unrestricted, and could you just about anything.

Any recommendations for a GMRS solution? Am I going in the right direction
for a family solution?

Kids are 3,5, and 8. They are way too young for cell phones. And two young
for HAM licensing. Just want a fun way to be able to communicate with them
during the day while I am running around town working.

Thank you in advance!
