Rob. I wondered same thing for a few years and my best advice is forget modification. I recently put my 7100 on a power / SWR meter I use with an amplifier so i could see full power of the 7100 on a resonant antenna. I got 105-110watt PEP readings. It's all about the antenna with that radio. If your antenna tuner best match is 3:1, the radio will cut the ALC back to save the radio and might only put out 65 watts. Instead, I would suggest you reat Bob Nagy's webpage on the 7100 mic mods he performs in Hot Springs Arkansas. Will save your radio from unnecessary mod and you can improve your audit dramatically. It's still a good antenna match that makes the difference. Mike. K8CTM.
