The Stir Crazy Net meets on the KG5EEO repeater every workday at 12pm.

Question: How do you decide where to operate on what modes in HF, if just
VHF/UHF, what are your favorite bands/modes?

  * http://www.dxsummit.fi/#/ is a site that shows contacts being made across
regions
  * If you have a favorite frequency, consider making a resonant antenna for
the frequency
  * Ham Radio Deluxe can alarm for different openings/countries
  * https://www.pskreporter.info/ is PSK Reporter, tells you where your
system is being heard, and the modes others are using
     *   Map: https://www.pskreporter.info/pskmap.html
     *   Statistics: https://www.pskreporter.info/cgi-bin/pskstats.pl
  *   Surf/pounce works as well
  * Putting a mag-mount antenna outside your car significantly improves
signal prop for VHF/UHF
  * There's a new net for emergency traffic, Mondays 6:30pm-7:30pm
  *   For VHF/UHF in highly-restrictive HOA's, try a vent pipe antenna
  * Echolink is good for new hams as well, it's free, it allows an operator
to use a smart phone app or internet-connected computer to connect to repeaters
linked to the internet and interface with operators around the world.
     * KJ's note- locally here, KT5TX is hooked up to Echolink, if you want
to prove your system with known friends in Houston.
  * Packet is another great VHF/UHF world, Vara is the up-and-coming mode due
to speed improvements
  * International Morse Code Preservation Society http://www.fists.org/ has
favorite frequencies
  * Keep a log book of successful QSO's, people often use the same frequency
  *   Look for DX contests

Possible net topic for the future: How is amateur radio used during emergencies
here in Houston?

Thanks!!  KJ5EMP, KJ in Cypress
