I saw someone mention they were looking for a tube-type HF transceiver. I
have a Kenwood hybrid TS-530S with a pair of 6146B transmitter output tubes
and a 12BY7 driver. About six months ago the high voltage filter
capacitors failed, so I have replaced them and several other capacitors
that commonly fail with age. The new high voltage capacitors have slightly
greater capacitance for a much smaller size which yields a slightly higher
high voltage and in turn, a little more power output (but not much). The
plastic band switch coupling had cracked (which is also an age issue) so I
replaced it with a metal coupling. There also had been an
intermittent issue with the VFO digital readout which I cured by
merely tightening all the screws holding the printed circuit boards (yet
another common issue). Also, while I had the cover off, I had a new but
old 7054 tube which is a ruggedized 12BY7A, so I replaced the driver though
it didn't need it. All the replacement parts and repairs were purchased
from or recommended by Ken Kemski K4EAA (SK). So, now the 530 works very
well, but I happened into another HF rig that interfaces well with FT8
which is my new favorite mode...and so the Kenwood is resting....and I'm
feeling weak tonight. I don't have a microphone to sell with the radio -
it's a forgiving input that will be ok with high or low impedance. With
all that said, I think a fair price would be $350.
