Public libraries have paid subscriptions to many genealogical databases. You can go in, if open, and ask the reference librarian or sometimes they have access from their websites too. That might help you. A wallet-sized birth certificate is not acceptable. Documents must clearly show the relationship between the service member and the requestor and both names must appear on the document. If any of the sites identify the C47’s tail number, you can use it in google/bing etc and fold3 searches. I found a whole newspaper article on my wife’s uncle final flight that crashed during WWII. Also many squadrons have their own websites with histories, photos, rosters, etc. I have been expanding my mom’s genealogy research using Family Tree Maker and the Ancestry site. Ancestry generally offers a 6 month subscription for about $100 that includes Ancestry and Fold3. I gives me something to do during winter months. My subscription has run out.
