In my opinion, it sometimes gets better at the end of the year, when new(er) issues come out and the previous are discounted to blow them out. But 20% would cause me to jump if it was something I was interested in. Being a new ham I found that the yearly handbook and also the arrl antenna book were most helpful for me. This is not to say that if they were 1 or 2 years previous versions they would be of drastically less use. J-poles haven't changed much in the last few years.
Also, it might take me 2 or more years to digest what those two books contain. Also consider that you get a download key with purchase of the books that has much bonus information.
