For those interested. Note that if you'd prefer to have the experts do your
mobile installation, our own BVARC webmaster Eddie Runner runs River Oaks Car
Stereo. He has a shop full of qualified installers who are also hams who can
do a complete and professional job installing your rig in your vehicle. (And
no, he didn't ask me to say that...)

REMINDER: GUITAR EFFECTS PEDAL CLINIC

As a reminder: In an effort to teach electronics we are hosting series of
events as informal clinics to to build and learn to modify guitar effects
pedals. It is an opportunity to come learn about bread boarding, transistor
matching, talk guitars, and even show off your gear if you like. This series
of clinics will take place Fri July 23, Wed July 28, & Fri July 30 from
12PM-5PM and will be presented by High School Physics Instructor and Guitar
Enthusiast, Matt Wilson.

Specifically, he will be using Jimmy Hendrix's favorite fuzz box circuit as an
example. He will go over and explain the workings of the circuit then lead you
to modify it for various other effects. Matt Wilson will have a classroom set
of parts available to use at no cost. If you would like a set of parts to
take home and work with, those can be purchased in the store at low cost.

What a great way to learn and talk with other guitarists. our hope is to have
a few people at a time cycle in and out for 1.5-2hrs through out the day
between 12PM-5PM to build and modify guitar effects pedals.

This clinic is available for everyone, from the elementary school student to
the post-graduate hobbyist. There is no charge to attend. Your RSVPs are
appreciated as it helps us schedule attendees to prevent over crowding. Please
come as many times as you like, make sure there is room for new comers. We
hope to see you here!

If you are interested in sharing your knowledge and presenting a workshop in
our store, please come talk to me. We are planning some events for the fall
and winter and are looking for presenters.

COMBAT ROBOT TOURNAMENT
& ROBOT BUILD CLASS
Houston Heatwave Summer 2021!

ROBOT BUILD SESSION: SATURDAY July 31, 2021
We are hosting a combat robot build presented by Innovation Spark ( a
non-profit organization that brought us the Houston Maker Faire) at 10:00AM,
Saturday July 31, 2021. The build is limited to five individuals or families
who want to create combat robots for our upcoming tournaments. The reason for
such a small amount of groups is so that we can exercise social distancing as
it will be a very hands-on, intensive build. The cost is $200 for materials
(which have gone up in cost) which will be paid directly to Innovation Spark to
cover material costs. The Combat Bots we are looking to start with will be
similar to the ones shown in the picture above. These particular robots are
non-destructive, human operated, and will compete to push or flip an opponent
into a pit. The materials used in this assembly include: robot chassis,
wheels, motors, radio system, servo & lipo batteries. The goal of this event
is to create five more teams that can compete in a tournament here in the EPO
parking lot August 14th, and eventually create a Houston area league. Please
email me back if you are interested in participating or have questions. I will
forward you the payment link for Innovation Spark. You are officially in the
build once you have paid for the parts. The payment is non-refundable if you
don't show up. Responses and payments must be in by Thursday, July 29, 2021.

Announcing a Tournament August 14, 2021
--------------------
Please join us Saturday August 14th, 2021 for "Houston Heatwave Summer 2021!"
Presented by Innovation Spark (who brought us the Houston Maker Faire) and
Hosted by Electronic Parts Outlet - Houston, to see robots fighting in our
parking lot! Multiple teams will be competing with robots that battle to the
death, some traveling from across country.
Participants will be arriving from 10-11 to set up; the competitions will
begin at Noon and likely continue through 5 or 6PM. The robots fighting on the
14th will range from non-destructive human operated robots weighing 1/3 of a
pound to 3lb robots equipped with deadly cutting blades and more. Spectators
are welcome and encouraged to join us. For those who wish to compete, there is
a link to Innovation Sparks robot registration on our website under
Events/Combat Robots or a link at the bottom of this page. We expect the
majority of the repairs and all of the competition to take place outside in the
Electronic Parts Outlet parking lot.
We are planning on-site food options as well.

We are open for normal business hours and we truly appreciate your support of
our small brick and mortar retail business.

Sincerely,
