Cool thanks for this info Rick. Up until just a few years ago I have always been a die-hard Kenwood guy for HF (TS-120 then TS-570S), now the very popular 991a, I never would have known this info. And believe it or not, I’ve read through the operators manual more than once.

Also ensure your RF Gain is not on "13" (reference to Spinal Tap) but more at the point where the S meter is riding the band noise peaks. Also ensure you NB is off or if you need NB for some reason, adjust it to just handling the impulse noise and no further. Sorry it this is a repeat of info, but I have instructed quite a few Yaesu users to adjust their radios as they had all controls set to "13". it quieted their receivers down quite a bit.
