I recommend taking the plunge tp get your desired home. Plan to stay there
for the remainder of you and your wife's life. Remember, you cannot take it
with you.
My wife and I still work every day, but for ourselves, not a company. We did
this after retirement. Like you, we both had hobbies that kept us busy, so we
formed our own company after retirement to keep us busy. I never thought I
would make it past age 76, but just turned 83 on the day it snowed here January
21. Many of our friends retired and passed away after a few years, maybe due
to inactivity.
Some additional info. At age 65 I had open heart surgery to get one stent and
three bypasses. At age 78 my wife was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal
cancer. She was told she had about 6 months to live. She had surgery to
remove 80 percent of the tumor. Her doctor determined she was a candidate for
immunotherapy and received 11 monthly treatments of Keytruda. The cancer was
cured, but the treatment damaged her pancreas and now she is a diabetic. this
was 4 years ago.
Bottom line is we are both very active now in our 80's, and still going strong.

I was afraid someone would ask that…. Current home is worth about $260k at
1500 ft2. Desired home would be say, 2500 ft2 so I estimate the new home could
be about $420k+/_. I am still working, but don’t want to eat up all my
income.MarkN5PRD

My Wife and I have lived in Missouri City for about 23 years. Our 1500-ft2 home
is a little small for all our hobbies and my work, and the neighborhood has
changed a bit for the worse since we moved here. We are both approaching 70,
and we have outgrown our house with our hobbies. I was wondering if my fellow
hams might suggest nice areas to move around Houston that won’t break the bank.
Any thoughts?
