BVARC  CLUB CALL

KK5W

Through the graciousness of Betty Wilcox Zermeno the Brazos Valley Amateur Club
has acquired the call of her husband, Al Zermeno, KK5W. As you might remember,
Betty (KA0TEN) is a Past President of the Club and she thought it only
"fitting" for the Club to get Al's call. The FCC granted the call to the club
on April 8, 2005 with Randy Pollard (AK5G) as the first trustee. Early in 2010,
Randy Pollard turned over the license trustee to Earl “Ross” Lawler, Jr.
(W5HFF) and the FCC has granted a new license for KK5W to W5HFF as the trustee.
Ross had a special relationship with Al as both had received their
undergraduate degrees in physics from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.  Al
continued on his studies and received his Doctorate degree in Physics from Rice
University.  A plaque with the license and a biography of Al Zermeno will be at
all Club functions when the call is used. For those of you that did not know
Al, you missed a special person and a special and exceptional amateur radio
operator.

Al Zermeno was a member of our Club for many years. He was always eager to help
our Club in any way he could and participated in many public service events. He
was a frequent speaker at our monthly Club meetings talking on complex subjects
but “in his own way” he was able to make everyone understand the topic. He was
the organizing force that installed and ran the radio room at M.D. Anderson
Hospital. He was an “Elmer” to all Hams and a friend to all he talked to on the
radio. Al retired from the medical field where he worked as a Physicist for
M.D. Anderson for 25 years. Al was born in San Antonio, Texas and had four
daughters.

RULES and GUIDELINES

For use of club’s call – KK5W

It is the intent of the Brazos Valley Amateur Radio Club (BVARC) to have an
orderly, legal, and non-restrictive set of procedures and rules for the use of
the club call sign – KK5W.

1.      Prior to applying for use of the club’s call (KK5W), the applicant must
be a member in good standing in the Brazos Valley Amateur Radio Club for at
least 60 days as shown on the BVARC membership roll.

2.      The applicant must abide by all current FCC Rules and Regulations while
using the club’s call.  The applicant must be familiar with control operator
Rules and Regulations.

3.      The applicant must submit an application in writing or via e-mail in a
reasonable time for the Board of Directors to act at a regular meeting of the
Board.  Applications may not be submitted more than 365 days in advance of the
anticipated use date(s).  Preferably, at the beginning of each New Year, a
re-application should be applied for.

4.      A Club-sponsored event (approved by the Board) will always take
precedence over other applications to use the club call.  Typical example would
be the ARRL Field Day weekend or the club’s sponsored hamfest.

5.      If more than one application is received for the same time period, the
one that was received by the club Secretary or Trustee first will take
precedence over the rest of the applications for the same date(s).

6.      The maximum time for a reservation of the club’s call is 7 days
consecutively.  The may be extended or modified by the Board, if other evidence
is presented or if a special situation necessitates additional time.  Special
consideration will be given and approved for reoccurring weekly BVARC sponsored
nets and will be listed on the BVARC calendar on the club’s web page.

7.      You will be notified by e-mail and notification will be posted on the
BVARC Calendar on the BVARC web page of your approval by the club’s Secretary
or club’s call Trustee.  If denial of use by the Board is determined,
notification will be by e-mail from either the club’s Secretary or the club’s
call Trustee.

8.      No indiscriminate use of the club’s call is to be tolerated.  Only
authorized or approved use (as listed on the BVARC Calendar) of the club’s call
will be allowed.

9.      If there is an infraction of the FCC Regulations or any laws, use of
the club’s call must cease immediately.  A full written report must be made to
the club’s Secretary and /or Trustee within 7 days of the incident.  The
applicant will be liable for all fines or sanctions and will reimburse the Club
for monies spent in the defense arising out of the infraction.

10.  Once permission is granted and the event takes place, the responsible
person or group will have 14 days to submit a log of stations worked
electronically so that the trustee may enter the list into the KK5W working log
book.  Additional time will be granted for such special events such as ARRL
Field Day.  It is the club’s intention to make all contact with KK5W available
on the BVARC web page and for Logbook of the World verification.

11.  It is the club’s intention of the Board or Trustee to approve more club
activities and use of the club’s call for weekly BVARC sponsored nets.  The
dates need to be applied for Board approval and once approved, listed on the
BVARC Calendar of Events.  Example would be for Monday Night VHF Net, Tuesday
Night CW Net, Wed. Night HF Net, etc.

I have read and agree to the above rules for the use of the club’s call.
