Byron,  Good morning.  I have heard CW students comment favourably on a device called the morserino.  I don’t use one since I have my IC 7300 to accomplish the task. As far as a key, I started with a $25 MFJ straight key 3 years ago.  If the instructors require a paddle, I’d suggest a puttikeeg handheld paddle.  It’s portable, works fine, and you can take it out on POTA activations.
