As the old saying goes, never sell your car to any friend youd like to keep. But as far as ham radio gear, I think it would be pretty difficult to be a crook on this reflector while also being an upstanding member. As far as Chuck goes, I endorse him as an upstanding honest club member. I hope the original email about buyer beware was just a general caution with bad timing.
