I am definitely not an authoritative source on this topic, but I wanted to
share with the group in case you shared in my 3 decades of ignorance on the
topic of....
Transmit EQ settings on HF...

If you have a "modern era" HF rig with Parametric EQ settings within, keep
reading... if you don't, keep reading anyway in case you ever decide to move
into a rig that does.

I spent the first 20 years in the hobby with older gear that did not have
parametric equalizers... all you got was a mic gain... ... well.. since 2021, I
got an FT991a and then a 7300 and now a FTDX10... and I heard that out of the
box, the transmit EQ settings are not optimal and should be tweeked.. but I
never paid much attention to that. Well, after watching MANY youtube videos on
what settings to tweek, I have discovered that all those radio tweeking videos
show how the video creator tweeked his radio based on the way that he sounds.
And since we all have different voices, there is no video that's going to show
you how to find the best sound for yourself. So.. I went back to an
authoritative source to explain the WHY .. of WHY we tweek what we are tweeking
in the EQ settings.. Bob Heil (for those who have only seen Bob Heil's name in
writing and not spoken, its pronounced Hyle.. rhymes with pile...) ICOM's and
Yaesu's modern rigs all have similar parametric equalizer filters based on Bob
Heil's design. (FT991a through the DX101 use the same EQ, according to Bob)..
In fact in Bob's many interviews you can find on youtube he talks about how he
designed the audio portion of the rig for icom and yaesu... as in they asked
him to do it... so hes the authoritative source as far as I am concerned.
I've dropped a link to one of Bob's interviews for you to watch. If you've
never seen it, its definitely worth watching. Its about an hour long, but He
talks so slow and pauses so much that you can set it to 1.5x and still follow
along naturally, and shorten it to 45 min, if you wish:

An Interview with Bob Heil of Heil Sound -
YouTube<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBfmhDzxfts>

Bob explains what your goal is for changing the transmit audio on your radio..
and how to set it up.
And after you watch that video, head over to the bob heil website where it
explains in writing about how to configure your particular model as a baseline
and then how to listen to yourself to then make further tweeks to hone in your
perfect sound. Theres two key sounds.. either ragchew.. or contest/dx to get
you through pile ups. They both have different sounds.

Theres a LOT of reading on the website, so be sure to watch the interview first
on the link above.
But after that, go to this link and read "Adjusting your rig's dsp settings",
in its entirety, and then go to "all things [your brand]" and find your model .
