Good Morning! I have been put in charge of the Houston Team for the Special Event Station for the World Cup Event 2026.
There will be 7 games played here at NRG (Corporate branding to be removed!) I need to staff Ham Operators for all of those games. I wanted to reach out to my club to see if we could get this event staffed. We have an incredible Nationwide Team and some pretty spiffy online assets to work with. Online as well as paper QSL cards (sample included but not finalized, we have had some IP issues with FIFA), online certificate generation, a groups.io, a website (https://wc2026ses.org/) run by one of the owners of BlueHost in L.A. Cloud spreadsheets to handle scheduling, dedicated procedures to handle ADIF submissions, etc.. I am thinking, rather than 24 hour operations on those 7 days, (although that would be great) we could do 12-hour activations on the days of the HOU games. We have secured W5C as our callsign, which we will share with the DFW team. Here is the description: "Amateur radio operators across USA, Canada and Mexico host cities are activating special callsigns (W6C, W5C, W2C, VB7FIFA, XE1C, VE3C, …) to celebrate this summer's 2026 World Soccer Tournament. Operate VHF, UHF, and HF, analogue and digital with us and let's make this a fun event! With 16 cities participating you have 16 wonderful QSL cards to collect! Click on the city below to see the days of activation and detailed operating schedule. Visit the schedule page to sort by the event you are chasing! Look at our QSL gallery to get a taste of the collection! At the end of the event apply for your certificate. Finally help us spread the word in social #wc2026ses! See you on the air!" If BVARC is interested in being the host club for the Houston Event Station, that would be great. I know a lot of you contest and DX on a regular basis, so I believe this would be a slam-dunk for our club. Please let me know if you folks would like to do this with us!
