I bought the TIA that comes with the mini tripod type base, and I also
bought the ground spike base. Setup is quick and easy, but I'd recommend
using a PL259 to SO239 right angle adapter at the base. Otherwise your
coax will make a sharp bend right under the antenna base. My telescopic
whip had a loose threaded piece at the bottom, so WRC sent me a new whip
at no charge.
Since it is a vertical antenna, my noise floor was higher than with the
inverted V I normally use, and the stations I normally contact were a
lot easier to reach with the inverted V. Being a compromise antenna,
performance was ok, but nothing stellar. At least their antennas are
more reasonably priced as so many compromise antennas cost more than
they are worth IMO. I was disappointed that they don't have carrying
bags. I guess it would be easy enough to find something to carry it in.
I would recommend getting a longer/taller whip and anchor the antenna
base to the ground (unless you get the ground spike base. Don't drive it
with too much power for long. Other customers have complained about the
coils melting.
