I received a call today from a former EAC graduate who asked about Byteworks doing virus removal.
They had signed up for Internet access, and due to the inadequate support for Linux from ISPs, they just loaded Windows on the machine. Naturally, Child + Windows + No Virus Software = Virus She asked if we did virus removal, and I said "not really". I tried explaining that since her Internet access was already set up, that we could wipe the computer and put Debian or Ubuntu back on her machine, and that she'd probably be able to just plug it in and go. She said she knew a friend that did virus removal, and that she'd go that route. I wonder if we would get less of these stories if we would hand out a pretty / colorful flier with our offer to help install Internet access. The flier could also at least warn parents about using the Internet w/o some form of antivirus. Any ideas for this? I put an entry on the wiki for this proposition here: http://wiki.bworks.org/volunteer_opportunities#internet_setup_flyer I'll update the wiki with anyone else's ideas. Thanks, --Nate
