Theresa, Thanks for the summation. I'm most concerned with the plans for resurrecting the adult program. It was my understanding from Doc that there was insufficient interest on the part of the adults. If that's the case, why are we putting everything else in jeopardy to pursue a program for which there is no real demand? As you point out, the adult program doubles our staffing needs. We need a separate group of teachers, and a separate group of software technicians which we do not have at this time. It doesn't make sense.

We lost not only a dear friend but a very able administrator, too. I'm sure ByteWorks will eventually get a new Director. Until then, we're all just pitching in as best we can to try and get things done. Some of the things that came up: 1. We need someone to make copies of: - donation forms - 3-fold brochures - information sheets on classes (kid/adult) 2. Clarence Johnson is looking into finding more inexpensive speaker sets for the graduates (hopefully at J&B Tech, where Doc got the last batch). 3. We need new Ubuntu builds (and I know some of these are current works in progress by Bill, Nate, Darren, Robert, etc) for: - classroom images - graduate/clones - machines for resale (note, we could tweak one of the other two images, but we want a different user name, ie, 'user' instead of 'student', etc.) 4. We are badly missing: - a Windows administrator - a ByteWorks Director 5. We have two weeks before the next classes start for kids/adults. In my opinion, it makes sense to focus on: - Ubuntu images (and the resulting cloned drives) - classroom machines ready - build some machines for resale (we could have sold 3-4 more computers yesterday if we had more built and ready to sell) - clean and organize the shop Finally, a note for Clarence, who is taking on the adult class program, and for the rest of the volunteers who help out in the shop -- we need to review the situation with the adult class. Most importantly, we need a process (and a team to manage it) for building the adult computers, which will have Windows XP and Microsoft Office, via the MAR licenses. In the past, Dr. Walter saw to getting those computers built and ready on time. Who will see to it, and manage the process, so that the machines are ready to go by the end of the course? Thanks again to everyone -- see you next Saturday! Theresa [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
