Another way to do coordinate is via Google Groups:

Each message has its own unique URL.  In the notes section, one can
reference the message or follow-up messages, transcribe it, jot any
contact information, note any need for follow-up, mark its status,
etc.  Also, as members join or leave, they can see how past messages
have been handled.  It's not a full-blown CRM[1], but gets us at least
part way there.
