That was my issue with this plugin as well. But, the same thing occurred 
when I was running bzr 1.5rc2?3? from the ppa which automatically 
installed the bzr shell prompt. That prompt is also too slow to enjoy 
(but not as slow as the nautilus plugin).
I can imagine the plugin causes bzr to diff every file in the folder 
against its committed version?
If that is the case, maybe it's an idea to not automatically check and 
iconify the files, but only when you actually want to know: e.g. a 
toolbar button + key combo to process the folder and display the icons 
on demand.
