Vinay, You may need to experiment with your build environment. This is the page that accompanies xercesc-2.8.0 for unix builds. To my knowledge, version 2.7.0 is no longer maintained even though it is the release recommended for xalan 1.10.

The xerces-c 2.7.0 and 2.8.0 versions both use a runConfigure wrapper. The xerces-c 3.0 and newer have a redefined automake configure. The current stable release of xerces-c is 3.1.1 and works well with the xalan-c (1.11) source downloads from the apache subversion repository. Sincerely, Steven J.
