I'm pretty sure this is not needed in SVN. You can if you want, but
all the information that is needed can be gotten in other ways in SVN.

The reason for a branch-point tag is that it gives you an easy way to get diffs of all changes made on the branch, since the branch-point. I don't believe there's any other way to do that, unless you memorize the revision number of the branch point...which is what the branch- point tag really does for you ;

Another way of saying this is in SVN tags and branches are equivalent
- you get no added benefit from one or the other - creating a branch,
or tagging a revision are different only from a social perspective not
from a functional perspective.
