Hi all, +1 both to $Log -> $Id and to stripping out the existing logs embedded in files.

Yes, I think that (as part of 3.0) we should do a global replacement of $Log$ (and the accumulated log messages in files) with $Id$. I'm not sure to what degree that can be automated.
