I'm not certain that there will be a 2.7 release. It looks to me like the developers are leaving it as an option, but almost all effort is going into 3.0. Personally, I think one more release in the 2.x series that is as stable as possible (which means fixing some number of bugs) would be a good idea, but that's just one guy's opinion.
