Kevin Hoyt commented on XERCESC-1656:
-------------------------------------

I'm actualy at v1.6 but that looks almost exactly the same as 2.7.

I did take a quick look at 3.0 and would really rather use the Posix file
manager code... the less dependency we've got on Apple APIs the better... just
a personal preference!

I'll see if I can figure out how to get 3.0 up and running. If that works out,
I'll see what needs to be done to actually use it.

I'm also concerned about the transcoder. I think all I really had to do was
replace the call that copies a C string to a Pascal string. However, pascal
strings and associated functions aren't going to be around much longer. I'm
just not sure what all is going on in there... my change looks pretty safe.

Do you have any idea when 3.0 will be ready for production use?

Based upon the plan:
"Xerces-C++ 3.0 - Targetted roughly for second half of 2005."

It should be any day now :-)

Based upon the comments in the source file... take a look at my e-mail address,
maybe we can have a quick Sametime conversation about things that are covered
by the Apple NDA...

> All functions that take an FSSpec are depricated. These functions need to be
> replaced with FSRef based functions so Xerces can still be used once these
> functions become obsolete.
> Also, I vote for removing support for Classic (Mac OS 9). If anyone really
> needs this, they can use an older release.
> And, I'd say the same thing about supporting CodeWarrior.
> These are the files that need to be updated.
> MacOSPLatformUtils.cpp
> MacOSPlatformUtils.hpp
> MacOSUnicodeConverter.cpp
> Is anyone working on updating the Mac specific code for Xerces???
