Check out the discussion page for the xmlopen.org link I sent. At the end, it says "I've now altered my local version of the schemas to resolve the problems I've identified so far. They are all valid in Xerces, now." (Note that this may refer to Xerces-J, in which case it's possible that problems with Xerces-C remain.) The history page names a single author; you should be able to track him down from there if you want to find out exactly what changes he made.
