Whether there is or isn't doesn't change the state of *this* code. The argument 
is really about whether it's true or not, not whether there's an alternative.

This is a public list, so I'm comfortable pointing to this thread should any 
complaints arise and am ok changing the wording for now. I'll do so this 
morning.
