BGI, wasn't that Borland Graphics Interface?

Anyway, I think the keyboard is read in the same way, just draw the box
then use fscanf( stdin, "%s" );

You will then need to use outtext to draw the user input.

I think you might find using getkey() useful here to draw the input in
realtime. getkey is not portable, it's used so rarely now that I have
trouble remembering what it's called.
