Many years ago, probably in the late 80s, Borland offered me a job to help write a Fortran compiler for DOS (I think my NDA has expired). It was to be written in Turbo C. Looks like we've come full circle (or is it just half circle?) Back then, compiler gurus said that you should write the compiler in its own language. E.g., a C compiler would be written in C, a Pascal compiler would be written in Pascal, etc. I never pursued the compiler-writing gig, but I always wondered how the first iteration of the compiler would be written. And I can't imagine writing a compiler in COBOL. Cordially, Kerry Thompson To unsubscribe, send a blank message to <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Yahoo!
